Accessibility
Accessibility isn't an extra: it's why NavIndoor exists. We want anyone to be able to get around Sapienza's buildings, including people who are blind, have low vision or find moving around difficult.
Built for everyone
01Screen readers
Works with VoiceOver and TalkBack
VoiceOver and TalkBack are the screen readers on iPhone and Android: they read out what's on the screen. In NavIndoor every button has a clear name, the reading order follows the page, and the app tells you when something happens: the next step, arriving, a wrong turn, the connection coming back. In “Around you” it also tells you which way each room is.
We really tested it. With TalkBack you can create and edit your own events in the calendar, and dates and times are read out clearly: for example 12:00 is read as a time, not as "mezzogiorno" (midday).
02More than one sense
You don't need to see the screen
Directions reach you the way you prefer: spoken, on screen with clear icons, and by vibration. No single sense is needed to get where you're going.
- A different vibration for a turn, stairs, a lift, arriving and a wrong turn.
- If you take a wrong turn, the app tells you and finds the right way with one tap.
- The next step on your lock screen too, without opening the app.
03Low vision
For people with low vision
The “Low Vision Support” option makes colours stronger and text stand out more. The app follows the text size you chose on your phone, and its colours are picked to be easy to read.
Besides the usual colours there are other choices, including a very strong black and white one, each with a dark version too. So you can pick what works best for you.
04Moving around
Big buttons, routes without stairs
Buttons are big and easy to tap. If you need it, the app finds a route without stairs or steps. And to look for a room, just hold the microphone and say it, no typing needed.
05Location
It knows where you are, without you doing anything
You don't have to hold your phone up to anything or make special gestures: the app follows your steps as you walk. If you prefer, pick a room and tap “I'm here”.

This website
This website follows the same rules: everything works from the keyboard, you can always see where you are on the page, every picture is described, there's a dark theme, and animations stop if your system asks for it.
